What\u2019s in the news:\u00a0<\/strong>Recent reports\u00a0indicate that digital health companies struggle\u00a0to find\u00a0success\u00a0 because, too often,\u00a0their medical experts and technologists inhabit different worlds, fail to communicate effectively and end up making decisions that are at odds with each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n Now the AMA\u2019s top digital health experts are advising health technologists to help them avoid these mistakes. In an article, \u201cHow to Engage Physicians in Innovative Health Care Efforts<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0that was\u00a0published in\u00a0Harvard Business Review, these experts outlined the keys to digital health success and highlighted the\u00a0AMA Physician Innovation Network<\/a>\u00a0and the 900-plus companies and more than 11,000 users participating on the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n Why it matters to patients and physicians:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThere is no shortage of digital health offerings\u201d that promise to improve the patient experience, population health and health professionals\u2019 work lives while cutting costs, notes the article, which was co-written by\u00a0the AMA\u2019s chief medical information officer Michael\u00a0Hodgkins, MD,\u00a0and Association digital health strategy executives\u00a0Meg Barron and Stacy Lloyd, MPH.\u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a0digital health\u00a0efforts \u201cinclude apps, devices, augmented intelligence and data analytics,\u201d they added, noting that that, unfortunately,\u00a0\u201cit is unclear how many of these options solve the right problems based on actual user needs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n That is why physician engagement is essential digital health success\u2014for doctors, patients\u00a0and\u00a0the entire health system.\u00a0And it\u2019s also why the AMA created the Physician Innovation Network, \u201cwhich connects physicians, residents, and medical students to health technology companies and entrepreneurs,\u201d the AMA\u2019s experts wrote.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
